About us

Whybridge Infant School is a small primary Infant setting which provides a caring atmosphere, where the children can transition from home life into the wider world. Although only a small setting, a few of our children have processing issues or additional needs and currently we have nowhere for them to go if they need to regulate their emotions.

We aim to create a sensory area which would provide a safe space for them to chill out - it will have lights, a dark den, sensory toys and cushions and be a place where the children can go to relax, reduce their anxiety and regulate their breathing.

What do we want?

We want to transform a corner of the school into a relaxing sensory/chill out area where the children can go to regulate their emotions or just find some quiet when they are feeling overwhelmed. We want the sensory resources to be portable so the sensory area can also be set up in the  playground if needed.

Who is this for?

This is for our whole school so every child has the opportunity to regulate their own emotions and manage themselves better, improving their mental health and emotional well-being. This will have a huge impact on the whole setting and the behaviour of all of the children in and out of school.

Why do we want it?

It will give the children a place to go when they feel overwhelmed, which will reduce their anxiety and emotional distress, and ultimately allow them to participate more fully in the school's activities.
