About us

We are a small village school in rural Essex. Our intake is from the village and surrounding towns and villages. Our children and staff are dedicated to their learning and are always looking at ways to improve practices.

What do we want?

Ideally we would like 20 BBC Microbits and one laser cutter for whole class sessions.

Who is this for?

The cutter will be used for the benefit of children aged from 4 to 11 years old. The BBC Microbits will be introduced to the children aged 8 to 11 years old.

Why do we want it?

At the moment as a school we use Bluebots (programming robots for KS1) and Scratch (internet based programming tool) for KS2. We are aware as society improves it knowledge re programming that so should our children. Having spoken to our secondary schools we feed to we would like to start to introduce the programming language called Python. The BBC Microbits web based program which allows the children to use the blocks similar to Scratch and then on the click of a button transfers it into Python. Using the Microbits and laser cutter to create projects around the topics they are learning would enhance their understanding of the Python language, classic children's books and immense enjoyment when their project works.

20 x BBC Microbits at £12.59 from CPC Farnell

1 x laser cutter, Cricut Mini explore Air at £259.00from Hobbycraft

Total = £510.80 (incl VAT* & delivery) + 3% card processing fees

Grand Total: £526.00

If we're fortunate enough to raise more than our target, then we would also like to buy another 10 BBC Microbits so the children can have one Microbit per child.
