About us

We are a large primary school in Southport, which has very limited outdoor space. Our school is surrounded by buildings on both sides and our playground is very busy! We have no grass areas and very few trees or plants. Many of our children live in flats so do not have much outside space when they get home either.

What do we want?

We have recently been able to reclaim our carpark as a playground space and this has been astro-turfed in the middle. It does have some trees around it and we are working to develop this area so we can build shelters, plant vegetables, dig in the mud, follow stepping stones and maybe even have a camp fire.

What we would really like is to be able to build a classroom outside where we can have lessons, then go off and carry out activities. It also means we can use this area in all weathers as it would shelter us from both the sun and the rain. We would like to attract insects and birds by making the habitat suitable for them.

Who is this for?

We have children from age 3 up to age 11. We will all be able to use this area for playing, science, outdoor craft activities, team-building games and PE. It will also give us extra space at playtime which we really need.

Why do we want it?

This is the only green space we have in school, at the moment we have to walk a long way or go by coach to get to the park or beach. By the time we get there we don't have time to do much. This space will give us access to imaginative play. Click here to see our video:

Seating area:

4 x 1 Bench @ approx. £374 each = £1,496

Total = £1,496

1 x Bug Garden @ £251.94

1 x Moveable fire pit @ approx. £25

1 x Wood storage area @ approx. £70

1 x Raised vegetable garden (accessible to all children) @ £700

We plan to raise some extra money through our Friends of Linaker but getting funding from Rocket Fund for the benches and maybe more would get us off to a good start.
