About us

We are a comprehensive secondary school with a sixth form in Sheffield. We are a friendly, inclusive community with a track record of outstanding results at all stages. In 2018 we were named Top State School in the North by the Sunday Times Good School Guide. In the same year our students achieved the highest Progress 8 score in South Yorkshire. Our A-level results continue to be amongst the highest in the city.

We also run a large Teaching School, training new teachers for both primary and secondary schools, and supporting teachers throughout their careers, by sharing excellence and expertise in teaching.

What do we want?

While we have dedicated computer suites in school, we no longer have reliable laptops for mobile use. The current school laptops have been refurbished over a period of 10 years and are finally on their last legs. Updates to operating systems mean that they will stop working at the end of this academic year, so we would like to buy some more laptops for our students.

Who is this for?

This will benefit all of our students. The current laptop are used across the curriculum - from Geography to Drama, Science to English, and many more.

Why do we want it?

There is a constant demand for these laptops in classes that span across the whole curriculum. By ensuring that our students feel confident about using technology, we can ensure they are able to engage in lessons more fully, share in teaching online, access homework online and collaborate among themselves.

We also use the laptops in after school homework clubs, and in extra curricular clubs and activities. We would be keen to allow other members of our school community to use them to improve their digital literacy skills.

Two years ago we surveyed students and staff about how they use technology. The results indicated that a lot of time was wasted on trying to resolve basic technology issues in the classroom when using the current laptops, because they are dated.

How will it benefit our students?

We want our students and our future students to feel confident in using new technology, so they are prepared for the challenges ahead of them - whether they take on further study and research, or choose other career paths.

£600 would purchase one of these robust laptops with a 5-year warranty.

For now we are asking for 2 laptops:

2 x Laptop @ £600 each

Total = £1,200.

If we're fortunate enough to raise more than our target of £1,200 for two laptops, then we would increase our target to include the 28 additional laptops and maybe even the trolley too (a laptop charging trolley would cost around £1,900 *inc VAT). This would take us to a stretch target of around £20,000
