About us

Forest Academy is located on the edge of the borough of Croydon. For half of our pupils, English is not their first language. Our pupils come from a wide variety of ethnicities, so we have access to knowledge of many other countries and languages. Some of our pupils come from households which struggle to make ends meet. Our family support starts as early as children are born.

We have a family centre, nursery and classes from Reception to Year 6. We have large grounds with many trees, hence our name, Forest Academy.

What do we want?

We want to buy some iPads for pupils who lack access to technology at home. At school we are endeavouring to provide all content of our lessons as digital content, as well as other formats. This way the parents will be able to access what their child has been learning about, especially if they are absent from school. This would be possible for parents on smart phones of other devices. So pupils who do not have digital access at home will be given extra access at school.

Who is this for?

This is for our Year 4 pupils initially, to use across a range of subjects. We hope to be able to develop this facility for other year groups in time.

Why do we want it?

Access to an individual IiPad will enable selected pupils to catch-up to their peers with digital technology and fulfil their potential in the digital age they will graduate into. Access to Times Tables Rock Stars will help them to improve on their recall of times tables. Interactive apps and video content will increase their skills and knowledge, to be more in line with their peers.

Pupils whose first language is not English will be able to access instant translations to help them understand and converse more fluently. Pupils who do not have access to a fluent English speaker at home will be able to access talking books on the iPads, to help develop their language acquisition.

If we're fortunate enough to raise more than our target, then we would also like to buy some more iPads or Procase iPad covers.
