Advancing equipment at Gillespie to help support our pupils love of technology

Thank you to all our supporters so far! We have reached our initial target so we are going for a stretch target to give more children access to iPads - see details below.

Number of students that will benefit: 234

Age of students: 3 - 10

Percentage eligible for free school meals: 11%

About us

We are a lovely, diverse one-form entry primary school in Islington, London. We believe that everyone in our community can grow to be a highly motivated life-long learner. We provide a safe and vibrant environment where children and adults thrive on challenging and creative learning experiences. We aim to equip everyone with the skills to achieve their full potential.

What do we want?

We want to buy 5 Apple iPads.

Who is this for?

This is for our whole school, to use across a range of subjects:

Computing - As part of our Hour of Code week, we were able to borrow an iPad to program an R2D2 robot to complete lots of missions. All the pupils who had the opportunity to do this thoroughly enjoyed it. It would be amazing if every child could have a go. Not to mention just how much more coding we could get done through iPads! We could build on our computing skills so much more, which is vital for the world our school is striving to prepare us for.

History and Geography - We have free access to so many AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) resources that would bring our learning to life. Unfortunately, at the moment they are just pieces of paper for us but imagine if these pages were bought to life - if just by looking through an iPad camera we could see moving pictures of what life was like in another time and place!

Science - Children at Gillespie love Science, so along with our amazing Lab_13 science room, we could use the many apps available to support our learning in a range of areas, e.g. to identify invertebrates that we have found and been unable to identify and to be be taken around our solar system like astronauts.

Our pupils are keen to use the iPads in music to make improvements to their recordings and also in English, when they would be particularly useful for those pupils that enjoy reading but struggle with learning difficulties.

5 x 9.7" iPads 32GB Sliver @ £319

We are hoping to get an education discount if we buy in bulk.

Total = £1,595 (incl VAT & delivery)

Now that we've been fortunate enough to raise more than our target, we would like to buy an additional 10 iPads so that we could have a whole class accessing the iPads at the same time, for a total of £4,785.
