Castle School Friends would like to purchase ICT resources for the school to benefit all students

UPDATE! We've reached and gone beyond our target already, thank you to all our donors so far for your generosity.

We've added more products we'd love to get for our school and stretched our target to £1,482.77 – please see below for details of what we'll be buying with the money.

Number of students that will benefit: 1,614

Age of students: 11-18

Percentage eligible for free school meals: 6%

About us

The Castle School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form. It serves the population of Thornbury, a village just north of Bristol, and its surrounding villages. There are around 1,600 pupils aged 11-18, including 360 in the sixth form.

What do we want?

We would like to purchase Educake Science for the Science Faculty and Raspberry Pi development kits for the ICT Faculty.

Who is this for?

The hardware and software is for the whole school, to use in Science & Computer Science lessons.

Why do we want it?

Educake Science includes thousands of carefully-written questions for KS3 and GCSE, all designed to improve and assess students’ knowledge and understanding.

It will save the teachers time, reduce their workload, increase effective teacher feedback, and improve student outcomes. It will give the teachers a better insight into students' understanding and will enable students to study anywhere, at any time, on any device.

Raspberry Pi is one of the most exciting things to happen in computing for many years. It is a credit card–sized computer that plugs into your TV or display, and a keyboard and mouse.

Students will be able to use it to learn coding and to build electronics projects, and for many of the things that a desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word processing, browsing the internet, and playing games.

Now that we've been fortunate enough to raise more than our target, we would like to buy:

That would be adding £327 to our fund so our stretch target now is £1,025. Thank you for your help in getting us there!

Stretch target 2

We would love to add to our target with some computer hardware. This would allow us to replace some of the existing hardware which has reached the end of its life.

10 x Keyboards @ £9.99 each

10 x Mice @ £4.99 each

1 x Overhead projector @ £307.79

Bringing our overall target to £1,482.77.

Thank you for your continued support.

The recent BBC2 series 'School' highlighted the lack of funding at the Castle School, and the huge impact that the resultant cuts have had on teachers and students. The Castle School Friends was formed within 3 weeks of the first programme airing and has worked very hard with people across a diverse range of groups: parents, past pupils, local businesses, charities and community organisations and has been able to provide the school with much-needed resources. We want to keep up this momentum by raising funds for this very worthwhile project.

Please do donate, but if you can't donate right now you can help us in other ways! Share this project with anyone you think would support us. Share the link at the top of the page on Twitter, Facebook, email, your website, blog, mention us in a phone call or even just a chat over the fence! Please support us and help make a difference to our students.
