About us

Drybrook is a small, friendly school in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. Our children come from a variety of backgrounds. We have a slightly higher than average number of children with Special Educational Needs, some of whom have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We have been very hardly hit by funding cuts to education so we are looking at innovative new ways to raise money to provide the best resources we can for our children to engage them with their learning.

What do we want?

Kindles to help us in our reading lessons please!

Who is this for?

All of Key Stage 2, Years 3-6.

Why do we want it?

We would like some Kindles to further improve our reading and comprehension skills. It is well-known that reading is important because it makes learning other subjects easier, it’s enjoyable and good for your health.

Due to recent government budget cuts the school does not have much money, and we cannot buy the Kindles ourselves and are looking to raise money in other ways. We currently have six Kindles and they save us space, time, money and paper. The Kindles help us in ways paper copies can’t because downloading books is cheaper and it saves money photocopying pages. The money saved from photocopying could then be used to buy other things we need. They also save space because we don’t end up with a classroom full of books that we don’t have room for.

Our school does not have much technology, so we have to share what we do have. In our class, we are lucky to have six Kindles and five iPads already. There are also eight PCs to share with the rest of the school. If we had more Kindles, it would mean we don’t need to share so thinly, and more classes will get the opportunity to use them and improve their reading skills too.

We will really appreciate these Kindles! Your donation will make a massive difference to KS2’s reading and comprehension skills. Thank you.

If we're fortunate enough to raise more than our target, then we would also like to buy some more Kindles or cases.
